Not very long ago, brands looked at the marketplace in two broad segments—India and Bharat. They would also be continuously torn between choices—mass or class; English or Hindi; metro or non-metro; urban or rural, and so on.

Today, however, with India and Bharat coming together, a new world order had emerged. It’s an era where consumers of tier 2 and 3 cities are as much as aspirational as those living in bigger cities. They are ready to go the extra mile to make a difference to their lives. These new sets of consumers are more willing to spend, more accepting, and more risk averse. They have also embraced technology. It’s a time when the mobile phone has disrupted their consumption patterns and, in turn, the marketplace.
